My Dad was horrified to discover that us ‘ecommerce types’ would be so devious as to deliberately try and capture his browsing behaviour as he navigates around the internet for the sole purpose of engaging him in a little wallet lightening some time later. In fact, anything flagged up by his virus scan that contains the word ‘tracking’ usually means a panic phone call to yours truly, cancellation of all sensitive documents and shut-down on the internet until I have made an emergency visit to tell him IT’S NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. So I guess collecting my Dads behavioural data is a bit of a waste of time, however, behavioural merchandising is hot topic at the moment and it clearly drives sales up, so is it morally acceptable for big brother to be jotting down every mouse click, every product viewed, as our un-beknowing customers merrily browse away?
